2008 Bi-Annual Garden Walk
Strolling Thru the Garden in Time
The Farmington Garden Club will host its bi –annual garden walk “Strolling Thru the Gardens in Time” on Saturday, August 2, from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. There will be eight private gardens and one public garden featured in the event. The walk will be held rain or shine.
This event is sponsored by Steinkopf Nursery, 20815 Farmington Road, Farmington, Michigan.
Tickets are $ 10.00 and will be available after July 1st at Steinkopf Nursery, and at the Warner Mansion, 33805 Grand River, downtown Farmington, on the day of the event.
Visitors are invited for complimentary refreshments at the Warner Mansion and may also purchase perennial plants at the site.
Portions of the proceeds from this event are donated to the Environmental Outreach Program in the Farmington Public Schools and to Habitat for Humanity. For more information please contact Betti Pool 248-442-2742
The Farmington Garden Club is devoted to the development of all phases of gardening, the betterment and beautification of the community, and the protection and preservation of natural resources. Members study the fine art of flower arranging and gardening. Every meeting includes a program on garden-related topics, instruction on flower arranging, or environmental subjects.
Garden Club meetings are held the first Monday of every month from September to June at the Spicer House in Heritage Park.

District I 2008 Fall Meeting
District I’s Fall Meeting, “A Harvest Happening,” is scheduled for Tuesday, October 7, 2008, at Crystal Gardens Banquet Center, 16703 Fort Street, Southgate, Michigan, hosted by the Grosse Ile Garden Club.
The day will begin with coffee at 9:30 a.m., followed by a business meeting at 10:00 a.m.; club presidents or representatives will gather for a “short President’s meeting” prior to the business meeting (details will be included in the Call Letters). Attendees will have opportunities throughout the day to “shop” the MGC Marketplace, along with other vendors offering garden-related accessories. Members of the Grosse Ile Garden Club have been hard at work this summer making table centerpieces that will be the “talk of the town”!
Cheryl M. English, certified Advanced Master Gardener, will be our morning speaker. Though educated as an Art Historian, Cheryl’s career has evolved into that of a gardener, potter (her company is Black Cat Pottery), and public speaker, and her topic will be “Autumn Jewels: The Science Behind the Scenery”.
Continuing with the “Harvest Happening” theme, our afternoon program will be a demonstration by Christopher and Joseph, of Christopher and Company Special Event Productions, who will show us how to create beautiful harvest tablescapes, using many readily-available accessories and plant materials we may already have in our homes and gardens. Among other credentials, Christopher and Company are responsible for many of the holiday decorations featured each year at the Henry Ford Estate – Fair Lane, a National Historic Landmark in Dearborn, Michigan.
Cost for the event is $22, which includes a luncheon of soup, Maurice salad, rolls and butter, and dessert pastries. The deadline for reservations is September 30; Registrar is Virginia Froehlich, 8537 Voigt Avenue, Grosse Ile, MI 48138-1057, (734) 675-2944.
Club Presidents will be receiving a detailed Call Letter, with a registration form and a map, and are asked to send one registration check per club, made payable to the “Grosse Ile Garden Club”.

Speakers for the day are Joe Rogers from Wildlife Recovery who will talk about unusual visitors to your backyard and gardens. He will also include birds of prey and how wildlife rescue and recovery is managed. The next speaker is Janae Little from the Chippewa Nature Center presenting how to attract birds to your gardens/yards. Janae will focus her talk on song birds. The MGC marketplace will be there with all your favorite garden needs plus other interesting vendors. The Chemical City Garden Club tables will be stocked with “can’t do without” items.
