MICHIGAN CONSULTANTS COUNCIL

Michigan Garden Clubs, Inc.

 

OBJECTIVES

* To protect the environment, to increase knowledge in horticulture, and to promote excellence in landscape design.

* To advance and continue the study of the earth, gardening and landscape design by:

a.     Encouraging and promoting attendance at Environmental Study Schools, Gardening Study Schools, and Landscape Design Study Schools of the National Garden Clubs, Inc. (NGC).

b.     Serving on local and state committees concerned with civic beautification projects.

c.     Continuing study through lectures, workshops and tours to private and public gardens.

d.     Assisting garden clubs when requested by giving information to promote MCC objectives.

 

MEMBERSHIP

*Qualifications for membership in the MCC are as follows:

a.     Be a member in good standing of a Michigan Garden Club and

b.     Be accredited as a consultant by NGC and/or

c.     Have successfully completed at least two courses in any one area of study and

d.     Pay dues.

*Membership classifications

     a.  Consultant  completed four courses in any one area of study

b.  Provisional Consultant – completed two courses in any area of study.

c.  Honorary Membership  – conferred on the MGC President and to others by the members.

*Admission Procedures

a.     Qualified members shall be entitled to join upon payment of dues.

b.     Dues are payable in April of even-numbered years.

c.     Dues for Provisional Consultants are payable when eligible to join.

 

MEETINGS

Meetings of the MCC shall be held twice a year.

a.       There shall be a meeting in association with the symposium or garden walk offered sometime in the year.  The date and location of the meeting shall be determined by the President and/or Executive Board.

b.      There shall be an Annual Meeting in the spring held in conjunction with the State Convention.  The date and location of the meeting shall be determined by the President and/or Executive Board.

Landscape Garden Walk Award Requirements for 2012

 

Two $100 awards are given;  one to a club membership up to 35 and one to a club over 35 members.

 

No Book of Evidence is required.

In a large envelope, include the following:  MGC Award Application, Walk Map/Ticket, Publicity, Labeled photos of the garden walk (limit 10), educational handouts, a one page narrative that show cases the walk: brief description of gardens, number of members and their participation, member recruitment, educational displays, etc.

The Garden Walk Evaluation by three Landscape Consultants has been eliminated and is no longer part of this award.

 

The following scale of points is used to Judge Garden Walk Awards

20 Points -- Clarity of map and tour schedule, and location of gardens in relation to distance

20 Points -- Overall appearance of gardens

20 Points -- Variety of garden types (Shade, rock, formal, water, etc.)

10 Points -- Publicity

10 Points -- Educational Value (Plant markers, worthy features)

10 Points -- Club Involvement (membership recruitment, budget, members involved

10 Points -- Miscellaneous (Floral designs, plant sales, displays, refreshments)

100 Points -- TOTAL
