Ben Phillips Named
 MGC Scholarship Winner!

Ben Phillips, from Kentwood, Michigan, a senior enrolled in the College of Agriculture and Natural Resources at Michigan State University, is MGC’s 2008 National Garden Club Scholarship winner.  He will receive a $1000 scholarship from MGC, and his application has been forwarded to the National Scholarship Chairperson, to be considered for one of thirty-four $3500 National Scholarships.

Ben is studying Fisheries and Wildlife Management, and among his career objectives is to make a contribution to the scientific world by actively pursuing the triangle of interdependency between plants, insects and people through multidisciplinary graduate research of entomological ecology followed with public outreach.

This year’s Michigan winner learned of our scholarship opportunity, not through University resources but through his grandmother, Mary Phillips, a Life member and outgoing Treasurer of the Grosse Ile Garden Club - - and Grandma is thrilled!

The 2009-2010 College Scholarship Brochure, with the complete rules and application form, will be forwarded to Michigan colleges and universities as soon as it is available (later this year).  For further information regarding the scholarships, contact Virginia Froehlich, MGC Scholarship Chairman, (734) 675-2944 or vafroehlich@comcast.net.
